New Porsche Day: PPF and Ceramic Coating on a Macan 4 Electric
New Porsche day has to be a good day. The question is how you make it even better.
This brand new Macan 4 Electric belongs to a very good client of ours who wanted to keep it looking new for the whole time he owns it. After a conversation about the different types of protection we offer, he went for a combination of paint protection film and a ceramic coating.
Why PPF and a ceramic coating together?
The two do different jobs, which is why they work so well as a pair.
The PPF is there to protect the car’s original paintwork against stone chips and the road debris that would otherwise affect the condition of the paint. The ceramic coating is there to keep the car cleaner for longer, giving the paintwork a super hydrophobic layer that repels dirt and contaminants and makes cleaning easy when it needs it.
One handles the physical damage, the other handles everyday grime.
The PPF coverage
The task was to get all the high impact areas of the car protected, so we agreed an extended front end with a few bespoke pieces added:
- Front bumper
- Bonnet
- Wings
- Mirrors
- Lower doors, front to back
- Lower rear bumper corners
- Tailgate and rear spoiler
- The gloss black parts under the Porsche badge
- B pillars and gloss black handles
Satin PPF on the interior screens
We also added satin PPF to the interior screens. It stops unsightly fingerprints on the touchscreens and reduces glare. It is a small thing that makes a daily difference, and it is one of those details that only comes up once you have lived with a car full of screens.
Machine polishing and ceramic coating
The rest of the car was machine polished to remove any factory defects or minor swirling, and to really enhance the gloss on the factory paint. Even on a brand new Porsche, there is almost always something to improve.
We then ceramic coated the following:
- The new PPF
- The remaining paintwork
- The wheels inside and out, along with the hubs and calipers
- The glass
- All the plastics, and there were plenty
A family car that actually gets used
Now, with peace of mind, the client can use his Porsche as it is intended.
Yes, this might not be the 911 that will be put through its paces on track, or the GT4 out for a spirited drive on a B road with the Westcountry Porsche drivers club. But it is a family car that will be used daily and will come across all the same stuff. Now it does that without the threat of horrible stone chips or a nasty supermarket trolley scuff.
